One Last Hurrah

With it nearing time for school to start, we decided to spend some time doing something fun. I don't know what y'all do for fun, but this is what we do.

We spend time with Grandma.

We ate lunch together, drove to the city an hour away, spent time at a Christian bookstore, stopped for a snack, did a little Christmas shopping, drove around said city while grandma remembered :-) things from her past, drove part way home, stopped for supper and then finished the trip. Then once we arrived home, we played the ol' switcheroo and everyone (children) loaded up into her car and off they headed to her house.

Yes, you read that right! I have spent the night home alone! I have been busy, too. So far, I have washed 3 loads of laundry-folded one, checked my e-mail, signed birthday cards, synced my phone, searched on-line for an item for my in-laws and gone over/watched 2 lessons for Luc's new Math program.

WOW, no wonder I am feeling just a little tired! I trust y'all had as good a Tuesday as I did! It just got better as T just walked in the door! Time to relax!

Thanks, Mommy, for a great day! I love you!

Summer is coming to a close

Well, at least summer vacation is coming to a close. School starts next Tuesday! Of course, where we live, summer feels like it is only getting started. We have had cool, rainy weather for much of our vacation, and now that it is time for school to start, we are having hot and humid weather. I am so thankful for central air conditioning!
Ty went on Friday and was able to get his stitches out. The doctor was quite pleased with how his toe was healing. She was only concerned with the amount of swelling he had and about one area where it appeared to have a slight discharge. She did place him on antibiotics to clear up anything questionable and he is doing great! We are so pleased with his healing and we are so thankful for God's protection of him. He has even chopped wood again! YAY! For him!

I have been trying to clean, organize and purge our schoolroom. Things seems to make it into the room and then they never seem to leave. The girls have been a BIG help and I am very grateful. So far, I have on large box of books that we have either gotten past or just didn't use. With Luc in 3rd grade, I was able to weeded out quite a few books. Plus, I have a large box of books that Ty used last year which I was unable to sell at conference this year. Now if I just had somewhere to actually store all these boxes. I have come to the conclusion that getting the schoolroom in shape will take me more than a few weeks. After all, it didn't get to be in this shape after only a few weeks.
We have also been working in the addition. The children helped T get sub-floor down over the weekend and now we are ready to move on to putting the actual floor down.

P.S. With school starting, I wondered if y'all were wanting to start our word of the week again.

P.P.S. Have a great year of school, momma!

Life Lately Take Two

We love spending time with our family and when our SD family comes, we make every effort to spend as much time with them as possible. Typically our time is spent eating, working and talking. This visit was typical except we added shopping to the mix. We were sad to say goodbye to them on Monday night.

Tuesday was spent in a more "normal" way. We went to the chiropractor, met T for lunch and spent the day around the house. T got a call later that afternoon for some help for a single mom that we know. Instead of spending a quiet night working around the house, he spent time trouble shooting some issues at her house. Since we were out, we decided to grab some dinner and pick-up some groceries. We enjoyed being back together as a whole family. Boy, did I miss my teenagers! I am sure I will need someone to remind me of that in a few weeks when school starts! :-)

Once we arrived home from our evening out, we decided to take advantage of the nice weather. We have had cool, wet weather and need to work when we are able. Ty mowed the lawn, T "weed-eat-ed" and the rest of us found things to keep us busy. Ty finished his mowing and started splitting wood. It was quite loud outside with all the work going on. We were enjoying having the windows open and the a/c off. I noticed that it seemed to get "quiet", but didn't think too much of it. Neighbors come over and talk, T's phone rings frequently so it isn't all that unusual. The door opens and I hear the following words. " W, I have to take Ty to urgent care!" I fly down the stairs to find Ty sitting in a chair, in the kitchen, holding his foot. His bloody, damaged foot. I for one can not handle anything bloody/gross.

A good nurse I would not make! T is the one in charge of all that! The boys headed off to urgent care and I headed to the phone. I will still flying pretty high on adrenaline so I knew it would be okay to call our prayer chain. I made it through that phone call without tears and was quite proud of myself. Shortly after that, the phone rang and it was T. He wanted to know when Ty had his last tetanus shot. Of course I could not find his most recent physical report and had to literally "paw" through piles of paperwork. I finally was able to get a date and called T back.

I decided that I would not call all our family. I was going with the whole-I'm sure it isn't that bad-why bother everyone until I know something-mind set. Imagine my surprise when the phone rang and it was T again. "They wouldn't do anything for Ty,it is too bad, they told us to go to the ER, I am headed there now."

WHAT?! UGH, I was not ready for that. Did I mention it was time for the younger ones to be getting ready for bed?! Oh my, it is not an easy thing to say prayers with your children as calmly as possible when you are about beside yourself with concern. Oh and then throw in a little brother who is INCREDIBLY upset that his brother got hurt. Oh, My!

Now, I must decide, do I call family or not. Well, that didn't take much thought, I needed to call my mom! I thought I would do better if I called T's side of the family first. So, I call and my s-i-l answers the phone and says," You miss us already, aren't you glad to be back to normal?" Right then, I was missing more than just them! How do you tell someone news like that? Well, I probably did not do it all that well. I think I just blurted something out about Ty getting hurt. When I talked with my m-i-l, I was not very clear and I was a basket case! I know they were sure it was much worse! I then called my mom and just cried. Cried and cried. I was also fielding other calls and trying to calm down at the same time. I knew once I talked with mom, I would be better, and I was. When I got off the phone, I checked on Luc and he was still very upset. I wasn't sure how I would get his mind off of Ty and onto sleep. So I pulled out a "trick" out of my sleeve. What works when nothing else does?! GRANDMA. I told him I had a secret and I wanted him to be in on it with me. We talked about what we could do to keep Ty's mind off his injury and ways to make him laugh. We decided that we would go to grandma's and play the wii! Of course, that meant I would have to play all those games I am awful at. What better way to make him laugh!

I am sure this is more information than you were ready for. I hope I am making sense. It was not a good night for me. Others probably have a different memory of last Tuesday night.

I talked with T a couple times during their stay in the ER. I finally decided that I would go to bed around 1 a.m. I didn't sleep well and was awake the minute T walked in the room. It was 4:22 a.m. Ty had a complex laceration on his right big toe which went down to the tendon. It required 6 stitches and looked awful. They took x-rays and they didn't see anything more serious.

This is what happened. While Ty was splitting wood, he placed the wedge in a piece of wood. Apparently, it was in a knot and when he hit it, the wedge bounced off the wood and flew back at him. He was wearing cowboy boots and had his boot off and was sitting on the ground when T found him. Ty doesn't want to ever split wood again. Plus, he already has new steel-toed work boots.

For those of you who knew about this, thank you for your prayers. He is doing well. The first few days were tough, but he is a trooper! I have pictures of that too, but he is not all that fond of everyone seeing it. And remember, I do not like to look at it!

Thanks for bearing with me. I know this is a super long post.

And you wondered where I had been!

My Life Lately

I know you are all disappointed in me.... I am disappointed in myself :-(

I humbly seek your forgiveness. Please.!? Do I have it?

Thank you. I really appreciate it!
I will do my best to not disappoint you like that again.

Now, on to my life lately. I have checked my calendar and I will attempt to bring you up to date.
My last informative post was back on July 8th, so I really needed a reminder of what has been keeping me from my blog.
Are you ready?

We finished VBS on the 9th, with 21 children and I really enjoyed not having it on Friday. I think if we are able to VBS next year, I am going to suggest only having it for 4 days. There was just something about it that was fabulous.

We then spent Friday through Monday at my in-laws. My mother/sister-in-law and myself spent some time Saturday shopping for new bedding in their spare room. We went to church with them on Sunday and then went to a small county fair. We spent the afternoon with my father-in-law and our SD relatives watching a tractor pull. It was a lot of fun and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. For some, it was the first tractor pull.

A Busy Week

Last week we were away Monday night until Friday morning. We came home, unpacked, repacked and left to spend time with T's family. We then spent Friday and Saturday with them and enjoyed every minute!

We came home Saturday night, unpacked (again) showered and got ready for church. We then spent all of Sunday at church preparing for Vacation Bible School.

Monday, the children and I ran errands all day gathering last minute items for crafts. We arrived home just 30 minutes before it was time to leave for VBS.

Tuesday, Grandma came to visit and we spent the day together. We had to birthday shop for T. Again, we were out most of the day but this time we were able to spend about an hour home before it was time to leave.

Today I spent the day with my mother-in-law and sister-in-law, shopping for new bedding and curtains. We had a fun day together even though we weren't very successful with the shopping! The children spent the day at home with their uncle and cousins and I believe they had a much better time than if they had gone shopping! I think today, we were home about 40 minutes before we needed to leave.

The biggest, most important thing to happen...today is T's birthday! In our 4o minutes, we were able to celebrate. Nothing too elaborate, but enough to be classified as a celebration.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, T! We love you very much and we are so thankful for you!

Tomorrow, as of right now, I believe we are staying home. I am not counting on it, but I am hoping for a fairly quiet day.

VBS is going well, the first two days we had 14 children and tonight we had 20! We are so blessed to be having VBS and are thankful God brought us this opportunity.

Coming Home

The traveling teens are coming home! Can I get a great big WOO-HOO! Thanks to everyone who kept them in prayer while they were away. I am super excited to see them!
