I took a ton of pictures and I thought of splitting them up over multiple posts, but I changed my mind! Instead, I put them all in a movie. I hope you enjoy the pictures.

Making Memories...
Last year one of the children won 2 tickets to go to the local children's museum. So, on Tuesday, we headed out to spend the day there! When we arrived, I was so happy to get a place to park! It is located right in the heart of downtown, and there isn't a lot of parking. I should have known right then that something was up. We stopped, took a couple pictures outside and then headed in. Too bad they weren't open! Come to find out, they are only opened Wednesday - Saturday.Ugh! Now what were we going to do?

Because I had already planned to be away for the day, I decided we would head to the mall and see if anything was playing. We don't go to the movies all that often because 1. it is really expensive 2. there is not much worth seeing. With the older children away, I thought it would be a nice treat for us. We arrived and took note of what was playing and the only thing appropriate was "UP". The new Disney/Pixar film. I had heard good things about it, so I bought the tickets and we headed over to the snack center. Being that it was Tuesday, we were able to get a small popcorn for $1.00. Too bad the rest of the things were so expensive. When we walked in the theater, we were the only ones there. I, for one, like being the only one in a theater, it is very relaxing. Of course, that didn't last long and more people arrived.
The children said they enjoyed the movie. Luc was thoroughly entranced by it. What is it with boys and movies/TV that captures their whole attention?
It was a nice way to spend the afternoon, movie, popcorn, peanut butter cups and time with the children. Of course, Lys and I would have liked a sweater, once the movie started it was freezing in there! Oh well, next time we will try to remember.
Here they are in the elevator after the movie. No, Lys did not get to actually drink the soda she was holding. She was just pretending and Luc was just being silly. They wanted to get some lunch, so we headed to the food court and grabbed us some Wendy's. After a movie, one does what one must to eat cheap! Hey, that rather "large" small soda from the theater came in handy for lunch as well!
I guess you could say we were successful in making memories. Were they memories I had thought we would make? No, but they are good memories just the same. The best thing about our day, when Lys thanked me for a really fun day. What could be better?! Nothing, that was enough for me!

Father's Day ~ P.M.
After a good morning at church, we headed out for T's Father's Day lunch. The food was soooo good, but then it always is at Texas Roadhouse! We headed home so T could enjoy his day. Here are some pictures to commemorate how he celebrated.

and rake it out!
Then it was on to attacking the "bullrushes" around the pond with the mower....
and weed-wacking the ones he couldn't mow.

Don't fall in Daddy!!!!!!!!
This is an accurate account of Father's Day 2009 and in all honesty, it really didn't look any different than any other day for T. He is always working, working, working. Unless he has fallen asleep on the couch and is snoring!

Father's Day ~ A.M.
Disclaimer: This is a REALLY LONG post! Lots of pictures!
So it was time to get Father's Day gifts wrapped and cards signed. I really did not have any "man-ly/father-ly" paper around, so I sent Luc to his room to make a box for daddy's present. At first he was alittle upset, he didn't think he would have enough Legos. He thought he had to keep the gift flat. I quickly showed him that we could fold it, and then he realized he would have plenty. Here is the finished project, I mean wrapped present!

This was the card that just kept going,
and going...
and going!
With a card this big, who needs a gift?! Actually we are taking Daddy to buy a new pair of workboots! That man always needs a new pair of those things! At least we always have a gift idea!
This is Daddy and Luc before it was time to open his presents. Luc was really proud of his box!

A little last minute playing while Daddy stepped away from the table.

Daddy really liked the wrapping of his present. He enjoyed taking it apart and seeing how well it was built. Plus, he liked that we wasted no paper!

And guess what his gift was....A Brand New TIE! Luc picked it out all by himself. We were shopping at the local Christian bookstore, and Luc "saw" this and knew Daddy would want it. It has tools all over it! I think Luc is waiting to be old enough to borrow Daddy's new tie!
This is what the box looked like after it was opened.

Not too bad if I do say so myself. If we had something small to wrap, we would be all set!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Once Luc and Daddy had finished their time, it was Lys's turn. Here Daddy is reading her card, which explains the rather strange facial expression.
Happy Father's Day, T! We love you!
(Even if you aren't happy I posted all these pictures. You probably won't want to read the P.M. part of this post!)
Busy Week
Things here at Handy Family Happenings have been busy, busy, busy! Over the weekend, T finished up the drywall sanding and reinstalled our large bedroom window. He had a deadline to get those things done so painting could begin. Thankfully he was able to get it complete! Thanks T for all your work! Because....
My father-in-law has been here all week painting, painting, painting! On Monday, he primed our new bedroom walls and ceiling. Tuesday he and Luc primed the bathroom and closet, then he started painting the ceiling in the bedroom. Today he has finished the bedroom/closet ceilings and is starting on the walls. It is so exciting to see progress being made and to have someone who is willing to help with all the work! Papa is a great painter and he is an even greater person! (Did I mention he has brought snack for us each day from Holland Farms...yummy! ) Thank you, Papa, for all your hard work! We love and appreciate you!
I have been trying to clean our schoolroom for 3 days. I just can't seem to find the "umph" to want to tackle that project. I have been busy doing other projects, but the schoolroom makes me want to run far, far away. In fact, here I sit, blogging instead of tackling :-) Oh well, it isn't like it is going anywhere!
As soon as I have some pictures of my newly painted new room, I will post them for y'all to see! Hope y'all are having a good Wednesday!
Turtle Soup
Things at our house are always interesting. With not children around, I thought it would be pretty quite. Well, I was wrong :0) Instead of the children providing material to blog about, it is hubby!
In our backyard we have a pond. Nothing to great, in fact it is "a pond in progress"! Of course the backyard critters don't seem to mind. Before we went away, T had noticed a fairly large turtle around the pond. He always caught sight of it while it was headed into the water. Tuesday morning, before he went to work, he walked down to the pond and found the edges all tore up. He also was able to get a good look at the turtle. He then used the handy-dandy Internet to research our new family member. Well, what he found out did not make him happy. Instead of being of the friendly, please feel free to live in/around our pond type turtle, he discovered it was a snapping turtle. A female snapping turtle looking to make a nest and lay up 80 eggs! UGH! Once T found out all this wonderful information, he hot-footed it home to try to catch "Snappy" before she made her nest. He was able to catch her and place her in our recycling bucket. There is a place where he can take our unwanted critters so they can still be in their natural environment.
Please meet Snappy. Not exactly pretty is she, but then, I don't think blue is her color!
She was very calm. That is until T turned the water on, and then she snapped her jaw closed quickly a couple of times! Once she realized it was just water, she left her mouth open to drink some of the water.
T was able to leave her at her new home and she was not all that excited about it. He said she didn't want to get out of the bucket. Maybe the blue finally grew on her!
T was most happy to not have 80 little snapping turtles to contend with in our backyard.
But wait....
....when he got home the next afternoon, he found another one! She was trying to made her nest as well. The only difference was, she was NOT happy to be placed in the recycling container. T placed her in the bucket in the back of his truck, went into the house to change his clothes and get his things collected for prayer meeting. When he came out, she was out of the bucket and wandering around the back of his truck. He was able to relocate her to a new home as well.
I am really hoping neither one of our snappy mamas laid any of their little ones!
Sunday-A Good Day for a Wedding
As most of you can attest, Sundays are very busy days! Sundays after being away, are even busier for some reason. Well, this past Sunday in addition to church, we were invited to a wedding. When plans fell through for our extended trip to the "city" for conference and graduation, we were able to attend. It was a nice day for a wedding, and here are just a few pictures.
The wedding was outside at a country club. The guests lined the 'aisle' and stood around the gazebo for the service. They wanted to be surrounded by their friends and family.
The groom and his men.
And for those wondering, good things do come to those who wait. The groom is 50 years old. He mentioned that he could remember his mom singing to him when he was small, and now he is starting a new life a half a century later. God IS Good!
The bride and grooms' favorite part! ;-)
Conference Day 2 & 3
Even though I have posted some pictures of the last day of conference, I thought I would fill in what we did in the middle.
Some back story so y'all can understand some stuff :0) We have homeschooled our children right from the get go. Thankfully, our conference was always in the city where we lived. We never had to travel more than 20 minutes to get there, and we always were able to sleep in our own beds. Well, that all changed two years ago when they decided to move the conference to another city. The new city is an hour away (in good traffic) and would not be the easiest for day trips. However, T's company have property in the new city and we are able to stay at one of their property's. We are SO THANKFUL for this! We leave a day before the conference starts, this way T can work that afternoon and the next morning before we head to the conference.
So back to this year! I posted about the first night, and we enjoyed seeing who/what was new or a repeat. We didn't purchase too many items. Just some spelling, cursive practice, & construction paper, as well as some fun, easy to read books on the "history" of our great country. We also perused a new Math program for Luc. We were just a bit disappointed as to the fact a couple of our favorite vendors were not in attendance this year.
Friday, conference always starts early (8:30am) for me anyway ;) and it goes all day (8:30pm). this year, there were no sessions that we wanted to attend early, and so T was able to get some more work done and I was able to get some sleep. Yay! for sleep! We attended sessions led by Paul David Tripp, Dari Mullins and Steve Clark. They always provide such encouragement and practical help with parenting/schooling your children. Plus, we purchased the bulk of our curriculum for the coming year. It is hard to believe that come Fall, we will have an 11th grader, 10th grader, 7th grader and 3rd grader. Is anyone interested in teaching cursive and multiplication? Feel free to let me know!
Saturday we attended more sessions and came away with more ideas/helps with day to day life in a homeschooling family. It really is a blessing to go and listen to these speakers. Now, if they could only get some comfortable chairs! All those hours sitting....not so good for the back!
As I mentioned, Saturday was also graduation. It was really nice to see how graduation works and to be a part of "Miss's" special day. Thanks for inviting us!
Last but not least, we have to thank grandma for her willingness to keep the children for us. They always have a great time with her and she enjoys having them. THANK YOU, GRANDMA!!!
Conference Time
Today our state home school organization begins its yearly conference. T & I will be attending the entire event, ending with graduation. A friend will be graduating, and we are very excited for her. We haven't attended a home school graduation in way too long, and I for one am excited! It is hard to believe that in just two short years, we will be having a graduate.Tonight the conference begins with an open time (4 hours) for shopping/getting acclimated to the site and a worldview mini-conference. It is always a good time of checking out what is new and exciting!
