Tom surprised me with a trip to Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and we (he invited my mom to join us as well) had a great time. We left on Thursday about 10:30 am and stopped in Binghamton for lunch, Clarks Summit for Krispy Kreme and arrived in Lancaster about 4:30 pm.

We ate dinner at Good 'n Plenty, which is a family style restaurant that serves traditional Amish food, and stuffed ourselves silly. They served 3 kinds of meat: fried chicken(the best EVER), roast beef and sausage; mashed potatoes, baby carrots, corn, fresh baked bread: wheat/white, brown buttered noodles, and various other side dishes. Then they offer 5 different desserts: 2 kinds of pie: shoofly or cherry, coconut pudding, jello, and ice cream-homemade chocolate or vanilla or orange sherbet. OH MY! It is good thing they have outlet shopping close by! We were able to head over and walk off some of that wonderful dinner!
Friday we went to the BEST place for breakfast! If you are ever in or near Lancaster you MUST eat there. Shady Maples is ....., I could go on and on. Let me just say: made to order, melt-in-your-mouth, simply delicious pancakes! Ok, ok, sorry, back to the trip :-) We spent the day visiting gift shops, quilt shops, a quilt museum, a farmers market and outlet shopping. We ate dinner at Good 'n Plenty once again, and the meat changed from sausage to fish and instead of carrots they had stewed tomatoes (not that I would eat those), they also had strawberry-rhubarb pie and chocolate pudding. You definitely do not walk away from the table hungry!
After we had exhausted ourselves with shopping and food, we headed back to the hotel. Mommy had brought along my birthday presents, so we celebrated just a little early. With having to head home on my birthday, we simply had breakfast (again at Shady Maples, did I mention you get to eat free on your birthday?!) and stopped at one of our favorite stores. We headed home stuffed but happy!
On the way home, we met my in-laws for dinner at a Japanese grill and I got to celebrate my birthday with them. When we got home, the children were all excited to give me their gifts, and I was excited to open them. Did you know, I LOVE my birthday?! Below is a picture of some of the gifts, I am really looking forward to reading all my new books, using my new towel, watching Fireproof and wearing my new shoes. Thanks everybody for a GREAT Birthday!
P.S. The chocolate/peanut butter bunny (from Luc) in the shoe...now has no ears and his head is quickly disappearing as well.
